Background
JCB is the Visa, Discovery or American Express card of Japan, but it did not enjoy the brand awareness of these other cards. The company wanted to beef up its brand, expand into the international marketplace and introduce a line of gift cards.
Solution
Hill's solution was to design base art modeled after European Renaissance typography. The line work symbolizes the company's solid financial foundation. The classic letterforms convey a message of strength, stability and history, while their Western style reinforces an international identity that is immediately recognizable. The typography also reflects the company's renaissance as it prepares to move into a wider international marketplace.
